Tilbrook Estate Reserve Shiraz 2006
When you are visiting the Adelaide Hills region, make sure that you drop in to see James Tilbrook at his cellar door in Lobethal. He is passionate about his wine and when you start tasting you too will be very happy that you dropped in. While this is the current vintage on sale, there will be not another vintage released until he is ready to release the 2010 Reserve which will be quite a way off, so if you like a wine that is warm and generous – snavel this one up!
This particular Shiraz has been sourced from the Griffin vineyard at Kuitpo which is in the southern zone of the Adelaide Hills. James felt that this wine needed a slightly more subtle but long rest in barrel, choosing French Troncais oak over American and only 20% of the wine went into these new barrels. After 3 years in barrel, the wine has definite spicy & nutty cinnamon character to it’s dense peppery blackberry & liquorice fruit. It is smooth but has an irresistible juicy & fuller bodied structure.
This is one to savour and to get your name on the mailing list to keep in touch with James regarding the 2010 which sounds like it will be very exciting indeed.
