Stags Leap 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
The Stags Leap Winery is often confused with Stags Leap Wine Cellars but nothing is confusing about this elegant wine. It is fuller bodied for a Cabernet, finely textured and rich with complexity and style. It is composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc (for that fragrance) & 1% Merlot. Densely coloured, with fragrant vanilla, firm but ripe plums, blackcurrant, liquorice and warm spice characters. After 24 months in French oak, supple tannins give this wine a smoothness that is very more-ish but will still benefit with some more time in the cellar. It may be hard to find in Australia, but definitely worthwhile.
