Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Shaw & Smith have quite a reputation for their Sauvignon Blanc and after just a sip of this wine it is obvious why they are one of the benchmarks for Australian SB. They are very honest about their vision ‘to make exciting, modern wines that rank amongst Australia’s best’. This SB is produced from a blend of hand picked Adelaide Hills fruit drawn from their low yielding M3 vineyard as well as the vineyard on which the winery is sited plus some locally sourced fruit.
It is fragrant with passionfruit, nettles, grass & white peach but this refreshing combination of ripeness and slight green characters are hung on a steely acid backbone. It has been made to keep the pristine fruit character but it is certainly less over the top than a kiwi SB. Overall, it is a zippy wine that flirts with a fuller body and finishes long.
