Scarborough Yellow Label Chardonnay 2009

A more traditional style Chardonnay from this Hunter Valley family run winery and one that garners passionate support. I have several friends who will only drink Chardonnay from Scarborough and I think that it is certainly a wine that has a firm confidence and personality, as has winemaker Sally Scarborough. With the renewed interest in Chardonnay, I think that this Christmas is just one of the seasons when this wine shines as a perfect accompaniment to a traditional Turkey with all the trimmings or a more casual interpretation of Roast Chicken salad with a cranberry Vinaigrette.
Aromas of buttery pineapple and peach lift from the glass and are joined by cinnamon, toasted nut and vanilla appeal on the palate. A fine acid structure filled out with a satisfying fuller body and a generous flourish of firm spicy oak on the finish. Don’t be afraid of some oak in your Chardonnay as it gives you a versatile wine that you can enjoy as an aperitif, with starters or mains.
