Peterson’s Mudgee 2005 Malbec

Malbec is not a common grape in Australia and it is not often that you will see it unblended, although, in saying that there are probably more Argentine straight Malbecs available than Australian. But this one & a Sparkling version by Peterson’s are both worth seeking out.

It has ripe fruit with a fleshy mid palate that gives it a richly satisfying mouthfeel and a silky texture while still remaining medium bodied.  The concentrated cherry, blackcurrant, cinnamon, cloves and tar characters are fragrant and juicy. It is a wine that you can enjoy with friends around the fire or it is a good one for food – Seared Wood Pigeon anyone? No takers… well then, how about some spicy bangers and mash?

Date: 28th May 2010  Price: $28  Value: $$  Drink: Now – 5+ yrs
