Peregrine Pinot Gris 2011 Central Otago

Peregrine is one Central Otago producer out to prove that not only does New Zealand produce a white wine other than Sauvignon Blanc but also that Central Otago is not a Pinot Noir monoculture. This particular Pinot Gris (they produce two) is slightly less opulent than the Karearea but is still good drinking.  And if you are a Pinot Noir lover then you are in luck as the Peregrine Pinot range will surely have you inspired.  If you are in Queenstown, Peregrine is a must ‘do’ winery with its spectacular cellar door set in the just as spectacular scenery. Just watch out for the fruit flies in May!

Creamily textured pear characters are fleshed out with nuts, ginger spice and honeysuckle. It is not quite full bodied but the ripe fruit has resulted in a warm alcoholic lick to give the wine a lift. A plush wine that finishes with a warming & firm spiciness. Chill it right down and enjoy.
