Paracombe 2009 Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris
Paracombe Wines is one of those wineries that have a great story to tell. The vineyard was planted after being ravaged by the Ash Wednesday bushfires and Kathy and Paul Drogemuller have a determined hands-on approach to create individual wines that truly qualify as ‘little gems’. Do keep an eye out for these wines as you will find some of them in the larger stores as well as in the fine wine stores.
Even in the glass, this wine starts to tell you its Pinot Gris story. There is a delicate bronze blush to it that merely hints of it’s rich personality. It is more of a Julianne Moore of a wine than a Lady G – G. And this is a bit of a diva wine cloaked as it is in its spicy pear, honeysuckle and honeydew perfume.
It doffs its hat to dry but settles as just off dry, and this contributes to the lovely and long silkiness in the mouth that leaves you contemplative but looking forward to discovering more. And more there is… The delicate ripe peach, honey and spicy cream flavours are attached to a minerally backbone. These flavours build with each sip and you are left feeling very happy to have taken the time to get to know this wine. Do not serve it too cold, just lightly chilled to fully appreciate this delicacy.
