Merilba Estate 2010 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Merilba Estate should be a must on your trip through the New England Wine region of Australia another one of the, as yet, little known gems of the region in the vicinity of the seemingly always verdant town of Uralla. The Cassidy family is very hands on producing a range of distinctive wines with a fresh style on their small vineyard.

This SSB is already a trophy winner & is a very welcome alternative to those ripe & plush SSB’s from the warmer southern states. There is little doubt that this wine is cool climate in character, with little surprise that it comes from vineyards at an altitude of 880 metres. Zippy, zingy, tangy & linear are all descriptors that come to mind, as does refreshing & summer.

Dry, but juicy with its Semillon lemon minerality complemented by Sauvignon B white peach ripeness, this is a wine that screams for seafood & delicate fish. In fact, picking your way through a seafood platter with good friends on the deck comes to mind.
