Leconfield 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon
Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon should be a mainstay in any Cabernet lover’s cellar particularly at this price. Regarded as a flagship in the Leconfield range, this wine includes fruit sourced from vines from the original planting in 1974. Paul Gordon’s winemaking philosophy has been to produce wines with the fruit and oak relationship in respectful balance. The deep garnet colour is the result of the inclusion of a batch of wine that underwent an extended period of skin contact. The aromas are blackcurranty chocolate, with some savoury toast and mint. The wine is well integrated and having over 18 months in oak has not diminished the juicy blackberry and pepper fruit character. It has merely enhanced the chocolate, and leathery savouriness and softened the tannins to chewy but in balance with the overall structure.
