Kirrihill 2009 Serendipity Vineyard Pinot Grigio

KirrihillSVS_pinotgrigioIf you want a change from Sauvignon Blanc, then Australian Pinot Grigios are an excellent alternative. They are crisp, yet finely textured and often have more restrained fruit than the more flamboyant SB. This latest Pinot Grigio from Kirrihill is no exception to this rule of thumb.

Kirrihill have looked to Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills to source grapes, where the cool crisp weather produces ripe but still crisp fruit. While dry, the wine is well rounded with plenty of fruit weight and creamy texture thanks to 8 months on lees. It does doff it’s hat at the richer style of a Pinot Gris as it passes by.  The characters are satisfyingly nutty, with some floral notes poking through the almond meal, white peach and pear. As usual, Kirrihill delivers on the value as well. A good wine for chilling down and sipping with a Pumpkin and pinenut rocket salad.
