Taylors Promised Land 2010 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

taypLandssb

A lighter style of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc with zesty lemon, apple & pear fruit that dips its hat to tropical ripeness. It was the freshness that appealed to me. It is refreshingly crisp. This is a wine that you can fully appreciate on a summery day sitting down to lunch with friends.

Stella Bella Skuttlebutt 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

skuttsbs

Displaying the aromatics of a warm summer garden, the characters of this wine could be described as a delicately herbed salad tossed with ripe apple, pear & melon with a zingy lemon dressing.  It will keep your interest along its crisp clean long length.

Date: 1st July 2011   Price: $18  Value: [...]

Taltarni Three Monks 2010 Fume Blanc

There is plenty of ripe passionfruit & peach in this Sauvignon Blanc, the time in oak & on lees has also imparted a light creaminess while still keeping the varietal refreshing acidity.  The softer style makes it a succulent wine to share with friends. The price is not too shabby either.

Date: 9th May [...]

Juniper Estate 2010 Juniper Crossing Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

It is crisp, dry & long without that cloying sweet fruit that you see coming through with blends that allow the Sauvignon Blanc to dominate unrelieved.  Each mouthful has plenty of mid palate fruit & the wine is fuller body thanks to some careful portion & lees work.

At the time of writing this [...]

Pirramimma Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 2010

This is a little sweetie just in time for the silly season. Pirramimma from the Mclaren Vale has sourced fruit from Oakbank in the cool Adelaide Hills for this wine. It is not common to see a Late Harvest SB but this one is freshly bottled with floral tropical fruit characters, like a welcome [...]

Matilda’s Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Pungent Elderflower & passionfruit characters with some cool climate backbone firmly in place. It is dry (I find that some of the SB’s these days have too much residual sugar) with satisfying fruit weight and length.  A crisp refreshing SB to look out for.

Date:  1 October 2010   Price:  $25+   Value: $$  Drink:  Now – [...]

Grant Burge Adelaide Hills Kraft Sauvignon Blanc 2009

The light passionfruit and ripe melon characters in this wine are soft and round in the mouth while still retaining that crisp acidity for which SB is famous.  It is a wine that you could drink with or without food, but drink it now while it is still fresh and crisp.

Date: 17th July [...]

Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Fragrant with passionfruit, nettles, grass & white peach but this refreshing combination of ripeness and slight green characters are hung on a steely acid backbone.  This wine has been made to keep the pristine fruit character but it is certainly less [...]

Shaw Vineyard Estate 2009 Premium Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

The Shaw Vineyard Estate in Murrumbateman, is one of the higher vineyards in the district at 640 m. However, Graeme Shaw takes advantage of slope and aspect to deliver ripeness & freshness to his wines. This is a good softly drinking wine with a crisp finish and honeyed citrus & stonefruit characters with some [...]

Paracombe 2009 Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc

Delicious herby passionfruit and ripe stonefruit characters with the addition of the interest mix of minerality and cream on the tongue.  Texturally this is a silky wine and on the passionfruit finish, you are again reminded that this is a SB.

Date: 29th April 2010   Price: $ 21  Value: $$$  Drink: Now – 3 [...]
