Chalk Hill 2008 Sangiovese
The classic Italian visits McLaren Vale. But this is no visa overstayer, I think that Sangiovese is doing great things in Australia and providing us with an alternative to big hitting Shiraz. Chalk Hill have done a slinky job on this Sangiovese – it is certainly a laid back rich fleshy Aussie style but with most of the varietal markers intact. Berry & cherry spice and leathery earth characters, typical medium body with enough acid to match the traditional Italian fare. A little like a shiny Vesper darting around inner Melbourne – stylishly silky and food friendly.
