Bremerton 2008 Coultard Cabernet Sauvignon
Bremerton is the domain of the talented Wilson sisters & is a producer that should be a staple on your list. I have enjoyed their Sauvignon Blanc and now think that they are on a winner with the recent release of the Coultard Cab Sav. This used to be a cellar door only wine but is now in limited release in Australia. You will probably start to see it creeping onto your local restaurant wine list (of course, you can still get it from cellar door).
The ‘Coultard’ connection is a family connection & interestingly the Scottish Coultards (brother & sister) arrived on the first immigrant ship into South Australia in 1836. There is none of that, perhaps wrongly, fabled Scottish ‘tightness’ about this wine, it is a very generous wine indeed.
Langhorne Creek is renown for minty Cab but this Cabernet is showing more of a very ripe blackcurrant, spice & chocolate profile with only a quick salute of mint. It is a lushly fragrant wine with that same intensity of depth on the palate. The Coultard is a wine with texture & it is smooth & silky with that intense fruit lingering longingly on the palate. A good drink now wine that is ripe & ready but could have some time in the cellar.
