Alvaro Castro Dao 2009

There is excitement to be found in the wines out of Portugal and this wine from Alvaro Castro is worth grabbing when you see it. It is a red blend made from Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo with a Portuguese accent) plus Alfrocheiro and Jaen (Mencia) varieties from the Dao region.

The spicy black cherry fruit has peppery support and cloves, liquorice and dried herbs grab the attention.  Freshly poured there is a floral highlight which becomes more meaty as it opens up. It is juicy and elegantly bodied and the bright fruit keeps it lively and fresh. Drink it now to capture the pretty brightness with or without food.
