The Sidetrack is a McLaren Vale blend of 60% Shiraz, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Grenache. It is redolent in it’s very ripe juicy berries, jammy plums and earthiness. There is no doubt that this is a big red, and certainly will be a winter warmer but it carries its might elegantly. Why not try [...] This vintage of the Procrastinator is 100% single vineyard Cabernet Franc from the McLaren Vale and is definitely something of a crowd pleaser from the Harvey family. The nose has the perfumed berry fruit nose of Cab Franc but also has some dried rose notes. For those who might be chasing a wine with less [...] The classic Italian visits McLaren Vale. But this is no visa overstayer, I think that Sangiovese is doing great things in Australia and providing us with an alternative to big hitting Shiraz. Chalk Hill have done a slinky job on this Sangiovese – it is certainly a laid back rich fleshy Aussie style but with [...] Spicy sweet ripe fruit is the order of the day. Approachable, easy drinking and very good value also spring to mind with this wine. The Grenache (60% of the blend)is dry grown and so is 15% of the Shiraz that is in the blend. The result is upfront cherry pie and spicy raspberry fruit characters with [...] This wine shows a lot of the classic Sangiovese elements from its garnet brick colour through to the cherry fruit characters. The cherry aromas have the added interest of leather and cedar which work nicely with the savoury flavours that follow the fruit on the palate.
